Rosemarie Anderson Ph.D.

Rosemarie Anderson has been Professor of Transpersonal Psychology and Core Faculty at Sofia University since 1992. With the publication of Transpersonal Research Methods for the Social Sciences (SAGE, 1998), she and the late William Braud founded the field of transpersonal research methods by providing a rationale for using transpersonal ways of knowing uniquely suited to the study of transpersonal and spiritual phenomena. In Transforming Self and Others Through Research (SUNY Press, 2011), they presented advanced versions of these methods and experiential exercises for studying research topics using practices, such as mindfulness, compassion practices, direct knowing, play, and the creative arts. Dr. Anderson has developed a transpersonal research method know as intuitive inquiry, a data-collection procedure known as embodied writing, and a scale for measuring embodied ways of knowing known as the Body Insight Scale. She is also the author of Celtic Oracles (Random House, 1998) and co-author of Five Ways of Doing Qualitative Analysis (Guilford, 2011). She lives in Oregon, USA and is a student of Denma Locho Rinpoche and Paul Goodberg.

Intuition as Expressive Intelligence (Saturday, September 27, 2014)

Intuition is to align the wild in the human psyche and the wild of the land. Incorporating intuitive ways known among cultures worldwide and Buddhist understandings of our perceptual senses, this workshop explores the ways intuitive insights express themselves in ordinary and heightened awareness. Since intuitions are expressed through our unique biology, history, penchants, and geographies of our lives, there may be as many ways of being intuitive as there are people. Through experiential exercises, we will explore somatic forms of intuition, such as the visceral (often known as the proprioceptive or felt sense), kinesthetic (movement), visual (usually images and symbols), smell/taste, sound, and the mental sense based on the Buddhist understanding of Sunyata, Emptiness. Participants will be encouraged to explore familiar and untried modes of intuition to enhance intuitive capacities in everyday life and in research and scholarship.

Participants will explore:

  • The alignment of the wilderness of psyche with the wilderness of the land
  • The unique role of birth/infant geographies and sacred geographies in intuition
  • Somatic modes of intuition, including the visceral, kinesthetic, visual, smell/taste, sound, and the mental sense
  • The Buddhist understanding of the mental sense as a sense perception
  • Identify intuitive ways of knowing that are both familiar or unfamiliar
  • How honoring the geographies in our lives preserves both the land and ourselves

TRANSPERSONAL BREATHWORK (September 29 and 30, 2014)

Transpersonal Breathwork is a spiritual method with high psycho-therapeutic impact; Transpersonal Breathwork uses the healing qualities of “Holotropic States of Consciousness”.

Holotropic states facilitate authentic experiences which have the potential to heal our deepest wounds: the wounds of the individual and of the collective. “Holotropic states” refer to the “inner healing-wisdom” of the Self which views individual and collective problems in the perspective of wholeness.

Neurotic behavior, relational obstacles, splits and loneliness, feelings of senselessness – are symptoms of missing wholeness. Healing always means to complete the “unfinished gestalts”, to get into contact with the wholeness of body, mind, and spirit and to open up for the holiness of our life.

Transpersonal Breathwork is taught by several accredited Training Institutes of EUROTAS. We integrate the basic principles and methods created by Stan and Christina Grof in a psychotherapeutic context.

The conference workshop can be used as a psycho-spiritual preparation for the conference. We will give a short introduction into the method and provide a space for individual healing and spiritual understanding.
